While scouting my favorite news compilation site, Rotten News I came across a story about a pair of women certain to keep making waves in the media for a some time to come. This frolicsome half-foursome spent their Halloween beating up and stealing candy from elementary school kids.
Now, I could rail on and on about what classifying 18 year old girls as women–vote, soldier, don't drink–says about our society. I could spout off about how we treat our kids inspires them to act like thugs even after the law calls them adults, but that's not what this post is about. If it were I'd have to go off on my favorite video games and that, my friends, readers and correspondents, is simply not about to happen.
This post is about the charges these young women are facing. According to Andrew Wellner of Anchorage Daily News–that's right, even with an 12 to 1 male to female ratio these ladies couldn't find enough free drinks to keep busy on a holiday evening:
Yes, you read that right, the robbery charges carry stiffer penalties than the assault charges. What the hell? I have seen evidence ever since I was sentient enough to follow Descarte's advice to doubt everything that Judeo-Christian-Islamic society is ailing, suffering from all manner of social ills; backwards sexuality, addiction to possesion, female subjugation, respect for the young and disdain for the elder and I'm not so blind to see that American society is at the forefront of that paradigm but I was still shocked to learn that, with a little legal finessing, should someone chop off my finger they'd get a maximum five year sentence. Should that finger wear a ring, 20 years.
I don't know about you, dear reader, but I value my finger more than my ring.

Magistrate David Zwink informed Butts of the six robbery and seven
assault counts she faces and said that each robbery count carries a
maximum sentence of 20 years, with each assault count carrying a
maximum of five years.
